New GASGAS Racing Team pairing Kirk Gibbs and Byron Dennis landed on the box at the second round of the 2024 Australian ProMX Championship, the duo both racing to third position overall in Horsham, Victoria, this afternoon.

MX1 charger Gibbs put his previous experience around the hard-packed Horsham circuit to good use, as he wrapped up his day with a well-deserved third overall in the premier class on his GASGAS MC 450F.

Gibbs was on the gas from the outset, with the Queensland-based rider blasting his way to the third-fastest lap in the Top 10 Super Pole Shootout.

The former national champion then carried that same pace into the first of the day’s two motos, racing to a P5 score. It was the second moto where he made his move, clawing his way to an impressive third-place result to finish the day P3 overall in his first podium since joining GASGAS for 2024.

Gibbs is now positioned seventh in the standings, just two points shy of fifth, heading into the third round.

As for teenage revelation Dennis – only 17 years of age and in his rookie MX2 campaign! – he too left the track with a third-placed trophy following a breakout performance on the podium.

Last year’s MX3 champ qualified eighth fastest equipped with the GASGAS MC 250F and then in the first moto, he recovered from an early crash to work his way through the pack to finish a hard-fought sixth position.

Dennis again had to come through the field in moto two, setting a series of rapid laps on his way to finish the race in fourth position and to stand on the round podium in P3 overall for the weekend. He’s now sixth in the points two rounds into his professional career.

Next on the 2024 Australian ProMX Championship calendar is South Australia’s Gillman circuit, scheduled for Sunday, May 5.

Kirk Gibbs: “It was a decent day all-in-all and a podium is always a plus! I struggled a tiny bit in the first moto, as the front group broke away and I was in my own land, riding by myself. After that though, I had a bit more fight in that last moto, which was a lot better. I got up to P3 and that put me third overall, so it’s awesome to get back on the podium and hopefully it’s the first of many more to come this year!”

Byron Dennis: “It was definitely a good day out here at Horsham. I ended up P3 for the day and took my first MX2 podium, so I’m super-pumped on that! I didn’t achieve the best moto results, but we got it done in the end. I took a lot of things out of today and I’m looking forward to heading to round three to keep learning and chasing the results we’re looking for.”
