Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki celebrated a milestone victory at the 2025 AUSX Open, as Cole Thompson claimed the SX2 class win at Marvel Stadium with standout 1-3 moto scores in the finals. The result marks the team’s first-ever AUSX Open win and a landmark moment for the Melbourne-based squad.

“It feels incredible to take the win here at the AUSX Open. It’s almost surreal,” said Thompson.

“I knew I could do it, and after winning Final 1, I managed the risk in Final 2 to secure the overall. Thank you so much to the entire team. It feels amazing to reward them at their hometown race.”

Thompson’s composed performance in the high-pressure double final format delivered Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki its most significant win of the 2025 AUSX Championship to date.

Rhys Budd delivered his best round of the championship so far, leading laps in the SX2 finals and securing 6th Overall for the night. This result showcases his continued improvement as the series nears its conclusion.

Matt Moss made a highly anticipated return to AUSX competition, debuting with Empire Kawasaki for 2025 after time away due to injury. The multi-time Australian Supercross Champion immediately made an impact, thrilling the Marvel Stadium crowd with two explosive rides in the SX1 finals.

After holeshotting and leading laps in both motos, Moss finished 3rd and 4th, tying for 3rd Overall. He was narrowly pushed to 4th on countback behind global superstar Hunter Lawrence.

“Tying for 3rd Overall at the AUSX Open is amazing. I just wanted to do my best for myself and the team after missing the start of the championship,” Moss said.

Luke Clout showcased raw speed and intensity in SX1 qualifying and Superpole but was unable to capitalise in the finals. Two separate crashes early in each moto saw Clout finish 15th Overall on the night. He now sits 6th in the SX1 Championship heading into the season finale in Adelaide.

The Brett Metcalfe guided GO24 Team Green Kawasaki program saw a return to AUSX competition for Cambell Williams, who showed great potential getting up to speed on the technical AUSX track, landing in 17th Overall on the night in the SX2 Class.

SX2 Championship regular Jake Cannon posted a night best 8th position in SX2 Final 1, but a first turn crash whilst going for the Holeshot saw Cannon retire from the night’s racing due to bike damage. Cannon now sits 8th in the SX2 Class Championship after finishing 15th Overall on the night.
