Kawasaki has given its mini motocross lineup a serious overhaul, dropping significant chassis and suspension upgrades on the KX112, KX85, and KX85 L models. While the proven engines remain unchanged, the new package transforms these pint-sized racers into legitimate weapons for the fiercely competitive Supermini class.
The headline news? A fully adjustable ø43mm inverted fork—a massive jump from the previous model—featuring Kashima coating on the outer tubes for enhanced performance. Out back, the KX112 and KX85 L now boast 305mm of rear wheel travel, matching Kawasaki’s full-size KX models. All three bikes receive a fully adjustable rear shock, giving young riders and their mechanics the tools to dial in suspension setups previously reserved for bigger machinery.

Braking performance gets a boost too, with the front disc growing from ø220mm to ø240mm, paired with Nissin master cylinder and calliper units borrowed from the KX250. The rear brake disc jumps from ø184mm to ø220mm, delivering stronger stopping power and better control for aggressive young riders.
Two Displacements, One Mission
Kawasaki offers two engine options: the 84cc KX85/KX85 L and the 112cc KX112. Both are designed to deliver strong torque across the rev range while maintaining manageable power delivery. The KX112 particularly benefits from strong low-end torque, helping riders launch out of corners and get the jump on competitors.

KIPS (Kawasaki Integrated Power-valve System) dynamically adjusts the exhaust port size to optimise performance at both low and high rpm, while digital CDI ignition delivers a hot spark for crisp throttle response. Carbon-fibre reeds, a PWK 28 semi-flat slide carburettor, and an environmentally friendly muffler round out the package.
Chassis Tweaks for Speed
The perimeter frame receives key updates, including a 25mm longer steering head pipe for increased front-end rigidity. Kawasaki also swapped several steel components for aluminium, including the handlebars (680g to 600g), steering stem (460g to 270g), and rear sprocket (630g to 240g). The lighter sprocket reduces unsprung mass and rotational inertia—crucial for quick direction changes.
On the KX112 and KX85 L, the Uni Trak linkage rod has been updated to accommodate the increased rear wheel travel, contributing to greater control at higher speeds and improved bump absorption.
Rider Triangle Gets Roomier
Recognising that young riders come in all shapes and sizes, Kawasaki introduced an adjustable handlebar system offering eight different positions. Two sets of handle-mount slots, reversible mounts, and height collars allow riders to dial in their cockpit setup.
The handlebar itself is now a Renthal aluminium Fatbar ø28.6 mm—replacing the previous braced steel unit—offering improved shock absorption. Grips were moved forward 50mm and widened 35mm, while footpegs dropped 10mm, creating more room for active body movement.
Dunlop’s latest MX34 off-road tyres replace the previous MX33 model, delivering improvements in traction, braking grip, cornering performance, mud-shedding ability, and front-end feel.

The Complete Package
Kawasaki’s “Built to Win” philosophy is evident throughout these updated machines. From the factory-inspired black alumite rims and green alumite fork adjusters to the brushed aluminium swingarm finish, these bikes look like they belong on a starting gate—because they do.
