The MXstore Australian team has wrapped up the 100th edition of the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Portugal, with the Junior World Trophy team finishing fourth and the Women’s World Trophy team securing its fourth consecutive silver medal. An undermanned World Trophy outfit also battled through six days of fierce competition to finish 17th.

Junior Aussies finish strongly

Australia’s Junior World Trophy team of Will Dennett (Triumph), Kogan Lock (GASGAS) and Max Midwinter (Husqvarna) finished the event on a high, winning the overall classification on day five before securing second place on the final-day beach course.

Dennett was in outstanding form at the business end of the event, finishing as the fastest Junior World Trophy rider on both the final two days. Lock also impressed in his ISDE debut, winning a special test on day five as the Australians charged past the Czech Republic into fourth overall.

Italy successfully defended its Junior World Trophy title, finishing ahead of the United States and Spain, with Australia fourth and the Czech Republic fifth.

Women continue podium streak

Australia’s Women’s World Trophy team of Danielle McDonald, Madi Simpson and Jess Gardiner (all Yamaha) once again delivered a strong performance, finishing second behind the United States for the fourth consecutive year.

The final margin was 9min 23sec, although a dramatic beach test played a role in the result after Simpson and McDonald tangled and crashed in the early stages, leaving Gardiner as the first Australian home.

Gardiner was proud of the team’s performance and the continued run of podium finishes.

“The women were all riding exceptionally well,” said Gardiner. “America’s been the team to beat for the last few years, but to be able to stand on the podium in second place for Australia is something that never gets old.

“I am super proud of how Madi went in her first ISDE, Danielle absolutely smashed it, and I had a lot of fun in my 14th event. The final moto on the beach was super special.

“Thanks to everyone who has supported us, and hopefully we’ll be back next year and keep Australia rolling on that podium.”

McDonald was also the second-fastest woman outright behind American Brandy Richards (KTM), while Simpson finished fourth and Gardiner sixth in the individual women’s classification.

France, New Zealand and FIM Latin America completed the top five in the Women’s World Trophy.

Riordan leads the World Trophy charge

Australia’s World Trophy team faced an uphill battle after Korey McMahon (KTM) became an early casualty, leaving Gus Riordan (Honda), Kyron Bacon (Kawasaki) and Josh Strang (Beta) to carry the load.

Riordan found another gear towards the end of the event, finishing as the second-fastest E1 rider behind Spanish star Josep Garcia (KTM) on day five. He ultimately finished seventh in the E1 class and was Australia’s leading rider outright, placing 19th overall.

Bacon finished 23rd outright and Strang 26th, while Dennett and Lock placed 39th and 41st respectively in the individual outright standings.

Bacon also finished ninth in E1, while Strang secured seventh in E3, giving Australia two top-10 class results despite the challenges faced by the World Trophy team.

Italy successfully defended its World Trophy title, finishing ahead of France, Sweden, the United States and Spain. Australia’s official team classification was 17th.

Verona ends Garcia’s winning streak

Italy’s Andrea Verona (KTM) claimed the outright individual victory, finishing ahead of Garcia and Zachary Pichon (TM).

The result ended Garcia’s five-year hold on the prestigious individual ISDE honour, providing another highlight for the Italian team following its successful defence of both the World Trophy and Junior World Trophy titles.
