AUSX Townsville 2026 opens up the 2026 SX Championship

The 2026 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship, presented by Monster Energy, got off to a flying start in Townsville on Saturday night, with more than 16,000 fans packing Queensland Country Bank Stadium for the opening round.

Quad Lock Honda’s Christian Craig dominated the SX1 class, taking a convincing 1-1 overall victory, while Honda Racing’s Brodie Connolly claimed the SX2 honours with a 1-3 scorecard.

Craig was on the pace from the opening sessions, topping SX1 qualifying before backing it up with wins in both Finals. Cedric Soubeyras (Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki) finished second overall with a 2-3 scorecard, while KTM Racing Team’s Luke Clout completed the podium with a 4-2 scorecard.

Clout had earlier made his intentions clear by winning SX1 Heat 1 by almost five seconds, before Craig took control in Heat 2. Clout then topped the Superpole shootout with a 46.649-second lap around Townsville’s technical track.

The SX2 class provided plenty of drama, with Connolly taking the opening Final despite a crash. Max Anstie, Lux Turner and Cameron McAdoo were also caught up in incidents that affected their results.

Anstie bounced back to win the second Final, but Connolly’s 1-3 scorecard was enough to secure the overall victory. Turner finished second overall with 5-2 results, while Michael Hicks took third after a post-race penalty. Noah Ferguson and McAdoo rounded out the top five.

SMX Next Podium – Nunn on top, Deveson and Compton round it out

The SMX Next Australia class also delivered plenty of action, with Yamaha-mounted Jack Nunn taking the win ahead of Monster Energy WBR Yamaha’s Jack Deveson and Honda’s Max Compton.

The Townsville round was preceded by Friday night’s AUSX Street Party, which saw a number of riders, including supercross legend Chad Reed, take part in the Holeshot Challenge in the heart of the city.

The championship now heads across the Tasman, with Round 2 set for Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium on October 31. The event will also feature Monster Energy Supercross champions Ken Roczen and Cole Davies.
