Triumph is heading into uncharted territory at this year’s Red Bull Romaniacs, with Jonny Walker and Sam Sunderland set to tackle the 2025 edition of the world’s toughest hard enduro rally aboard near-standard Tiger 900 Rally Pro adventure bikes.
From July 22–26 in the wild terrain of Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, the duo will compete in the Adventure categories — Walker in the Ultimate class and Sunderland in the Lite class. For both riders, it’s a fresh challenge: a big adventure bike in a race known for brutal singletrack, riverbeds, steep climbs and punishing terrain.

Walker, representing Triumph Factory Racing Enduro Team, is no stranger to Romaniacs, having battled it out in the Gold class previously. But this time he’ll swap his lightweight enduro weapon for a Tiger 900 Rally Pro, taking on the mountain marathon with a new mindset. “I’m really excited to take on this iconic race on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro,” said Walker. “It’s a different challenge than I’m used to, but that’s what makes it exciting.”
For Sunderland, it’s his first official competitive outing with Triumph since becoming a brand ambassador earlier this year. The two-time Dakar winner will line up in the Adventure Lite class. “Romaniacs says it all in the name — it’s mental!” said Sunderland. “I’ve seen what goes down at this event and I’m pumped to give it a crack. This will be good training for my upcoming round-the-world ride.”

The Red Bull Romaniacs kicks off with a city prologue in Sibiu on July 22, followed by four demanding days of off-road racing. With two world-class riders and two near-stock adventure bikes, Triumph is set to prove the real-world performance of the Tiger 900 Rally Pro in the harshest conditions imaginable.
Ian Kimber, Triumph’s Head of Global Racing Programmes, is looking forward to seeing the brand break new ground: “It’s a big step into a tough race format for Triumph, but we’ve got two of the best to show what the Tiger can do. The Adventure classes are heating up and we’re excited to see how Sam and Jonny go. It’ll be a great learning experience.”

READY TO RACE The Tiger 900 Rally Pro has already tasted success off-road, winning the Trail category at the 2022 Baja Aragón with Iván Cervantes. Designed to handle everything from rugged trails to long-haul touring, it features a 108PS triple-cylinder engine with a T-plane crank, delivering 90Nm of torque and excellent low-down drive.
A high-spec list includes cornering ABS and traction control, six ride modes (including Off-Road Pro), Triumph Shift Assist, heated seats and grips, tyre pressure monitoring, Brembo Stylema brakes, and Showa suspension with 240mm front and 230mm rear wheel travel.
