THREE CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT COOLUM

Pirelli riders take out MX-1, MX2 & MXD Pirelli MX Nationals Championships.

All three championships were on the line as Australia’s best motocross racers headed to Coolum for the final two rounds of the Pirelli MX Nationals last weekend. Rounds 9 and 10 of the championship would be decided across the two days, and in true Queensland style conditions would be perfect for both days.

The MX1 title would come down to a battle between 2, with both Todd Waters and Luke Clout battling it out for the coveted MX1 championship. Neither rider had previously won a premier class title, so the stakes were high for both riders and their respective teams, and it would come down to which rider would perform best in the deep loamy sand of the Coolum racetrack. In the end it was DPH Motorsport Husqvarna rider Todd Waters who was unstoppable all weekend, putting in stunning rides to clean sweep the weekend, winning every moto across the two days on the way to his maiden MX1 title.

In MX2, defending champion Wilson Todd was determined to add another championship to his resume, but with the depth of talent in the quarter litre class, he would have to be at the top of his game to walk away with the 2019 MX2 title. And at the top of his game he was, winning 3 of the 5 moto’s across the weekend, and came home third in the final moto on Sunday to successfully defend his MX championship. Todd’s win gave DPH Motorsport Husqvarna both the MX1 and MX2 National championships, a feat not seen in Australia for some years.

The MXD title also became a battle between two riders, but it was Raceline KTM’s Regan Duffy who stamped his authority on the series with two great rides on the Sunday, winning both moto’s and the overall to take out MXD championship. Duffy held off WBR Yamaha’s Maximus Pervis, who had taken two wins on the Saturday to keep himself in contention for the MXD championship, but it was Duffy and his KTM 250 SX-F who were just too good on the Sunday, giving himself and the Raceline KTM team another championship to add to the collection.
