The Activ8 Yamalube Yamaha rider attempted to endure the treacherous weather conditions on Saturday before mechanical issues forced him to withdraw from the race. It was later identified that an earlier crash had damaged his radiator causing overheating as fluid drained from the motor.

Thankfully the Activ8 team were able to fix the issue and have Ralston lining up for the sprint component on Sunday. Ralston managed the wet conditions well to finish fifth outright and third in class, a great response to Saturday’s disappointment.

“It was an up and down weekend for me,” Ralston said. “I’m not exactly sure what happened to the bike on Saturday but with all the mud and water it was tough on the machinery. Thankfully, the team did a great job in getting it running again and I was able to gain some valuable points on Sunday.

“It was tough riding out there and I’m glad we don’t have to do this every weekend,” he laughs.

Ralston’s DNF on Saturday has drastically affected his championship hopes yet he will look to regain lost ground as the series continues in NSW on August 13-14.
