The second half of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores, saw first-class racing at the picturesque Warwick venue in Southern Queensland, marking a successful debut on the series calendar.

Warwick’s soft surface and hard base tested each competitor throughout the day’s proceedings, with Jed Beaton and Alex Larwood proving the best of the premier categories by claiming the top step of the Kawasaki MX1 and Pirelli MX2 classes, respectively.

In the MAXXIS MX3 division, Kayd Kingsford extended his points lead with a convincing 1-1 performance, while Blake Bohannon wrapped up the three-round Fox Racing MX85 Cup championship, and Seth Thomas earned the round win.

Round five of Penrite ProMX in Warwick provided yet another battle of the titans in the Kawasaki MX1 Class, as Monster Energy CDR Yamaha’s Jed Beaton went toe-to-toe with Boost Mobile Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster for the round honours.

Series-leading Beaton fired first by topping the Kawasaki MX1 qualifying session, besting arch-rival Webster by 0.74s, as Repco Honda Racing’s Wilson Todd took the third-fastest time.

Beaton would then go even faster during the MX1 Superpole, with a spectacular lap seeing him cross the line with a 1:42.911 for the top position. A desperate final lap from Webster saw him capture P2, albeit 1.59s in arrears. Todd took third, ahead of Levi Rogers (Yamaha) and Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team).

It was a comfortable win in the opening MX1 moto of the day for Beaton, with Crawford launching to the holeshot, only to be overhauled by the number 14 in the following laps. He would eventually stretch out to a 9.34s victory over the KTM rider, further extending his points lead in the process.

Defending champion Webster recovered well from an early error in race one, working his way from the edge of the top 10 to a distant third, as Zachary Watson (Triumph) and Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna TDUB Racing) completed the top five.

The second moto belonged to Webster, who rebounded to earn a classic victory over Beaton. It was Waters who scored the holeshot, although it took only a couple of laps before Webster and Beaton resumed battle at the front of the field.

The duo traded blows all race, with the Honda rider clinging on for a 1.3-second win. Crawford finished in third, followed by Todd and Luke Clout (Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki).

For the round, Beaton earned a two-point win over Webster, with Crawford in P3. The same trio hold down the top championship positions with Beaton on 207pts, Webster 192pts, and Crawford 171pts.

Pirelli Mx2 Winner Alex Larwood broke through for his first win of the series

Pirelli MX2
A new Pirelli MX2 round winner emerged for this season in the form of NFAL Honda Racing’s Alex Larwood, after the South Australian traded moto wins with his series-leading team-mate, Brodie Connolly.

Connolly (Polyflor Honda Racing) controlled qualifying from the outset, taking pole honours by 0.49s over KTM Racing Team’s Noah Ferguson with a 1:43.316 lap time. A late charge by Jayce Cosford (Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha Racing) saw him jump to third-quickest.

The opening MX2 race belonged to the reigning champion Connolly, who claimed the holeshot and controlled the moto, taking a 4.7s victory over Larwood.

Larwood was involved in a first-turn incident, but charged his way forward to take a strong second place, courtesy of a late pass on Ferguson. KTM Racing Team’s Byron Dennis and Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s championship hopeful Ryder Kingsford completed the top five.

The scintillating second MX2 race belonged to a rock-solid Larwood.

Kingsford scored the holeshot as Connolly tangled bars in the opening corner and remounted in dead last, although it was Ferguson who wasted no time in taking the lead.

The number 29 tried to hold a rampant Larwood at bay as Connolly clawed his way forward, but Larwood made a decisive move into the lead late in the moto to take a 1.62s win over Ferguson. Kingsford finished third, Connolly fourth, and Dennis fifth.

Larwood left Warwick with the round win from Connolly and Ferguson, while in the championship standings, Connolly holds a 17pt margin over Kingsford (235pts to 218), with Ferguson in third (177pts).

MAXXIS MX3
Honda Racing’s Kayd Kingsford continued his impressive form with a perfect 1-1 day in the MAXXIS MX3 Class at Warwick.

The younger of the Kingsford brothers set a scorching lap during MAXXIS MX3 qualifying, logging a time almost three-and-a-half seconds quicker than Monster Energy WBR Yamaha’s Ky Woods. Husqvarna rider Jake Rumens finished third-fastest in the session.

Kingsford put on a clinic in the opening MX3 race, powering to the holeshot and putting in hard, consistent laps to take a 17.2s win over Woods and Jet Alsop (Honda). Seth Shackleton (KTM) and Jack Deveson (Husqvarna) wrapped up fourth and fifth.

A monster holeshot saw Kingsford again take a wire-to-wire win and complete a perfect day at Warwick, as he held a hard-charging Woods at arm’s length and finished with a 1.27-second margin.

Jet Alsop recovered well from a tough start to finish a consistent third, as Shackleton and Sonny Pellicano (Yamaha) completed the top five.

Kingsford, Woods, and Alsop filled the round podium, while Kingsford now holds a 38pt lead over Woods in the championship standings. Alsop is a further eight markers back in third.

GASGAS rider Seth Thomas captured the Fox Racing MX85 Cup win on the day, but Yamaha’s Blake BoHannon secured the Cup

Fox Racing MX85 Cup
GASGAS rider Seth Thomas captured the Warwick round battle, but it was Blake Bohannon who won the war as the Fox Racing MX85 Cup hit the track for the final time this year.

Young KTM rider Zander Kruik started his day strongly by topping qualifying, beating series leader Bohannon (Yamaha) by 0.69s, while Thomas finished a further second back in third.

The opening encounter saw Bohannon and Thomas buried off the start as Connor Feather (Husqvarna) took the holeshot, but the two front-runners moved through the pack fast.

Thomas ultimately took a 5.7-second win over the Yamaha rider, with KTM’s Darcy Huston third.  Nate Perrett (KTM) and Sidney Stephenson (GASGAS) rounded out the top five.

Race two saw some of the best action of the entire Penrite ProMX Championship as Thomas made a last-lap pass to take the win.

As Bohannon holeshot, Thomas found himself buried mid-pack, but the GASGAS rider sliced his way forward and closed onto the back of his rival in the closing stages.

The pair traded blows multiple times before Thomas found a way past and took a dramatic win. Kruik finished a distant third, with Feather and Luis Cannon fourth and fifth.

Thomas took the round overall from Bohannon and Huston, but Bohannon claimed the three-round championship by 10pts over Thomas (135pts to 125pts), while Kruik (92pts) finished third.

The sixth round of 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores, will be held in Canberra, ACT on July 6. Get your tickets here.
