Triumph Factory Racing has confirmed that current MX2 World Championship leader Guillem Farres will step up to the MXGP class in 2027, as the manufacturer prepares to make its first official factory entry into the premier category.
The Spaniard has signed a new three-year deal with Triumph and will race the TF 450-X alongside Mikkel Haarup, forming a two-rider MXGP line-up for the team’s debut season in the class.
Farres has been an integral part of Triumph’s rapidly developing motocross programme since joining the team ahead of the 2025 season. After establishing himself as a regular frontrunner on the TF 250-X, the 23-year-old has taken another major step forward in 2026.
With five rounds remaining in the MX2 World Championship, Farres leads the series comfortably after an impressive campaign that includes five Grand Prix victories and a further five overall podiums.
His speed, consistency and ability to perform across a wide range of circuits and conditions have made the move into MXGP a natural next step for both rider and manufacturer.
Farres will be joined in MXGP by Mikkel Haarup, who has played an important role in the development of Triumph’s motocross racing programme in both MX2 and AMA Pro Motocross. The Dane will bring valuable experience to Triumph’s first season in the premier class.
Meanwhile, Camden McLellan will remain with Triumph Factory Racing in MX2 for 2027. The South African currently sits third in the 2026 MX2 championship and, alongside Farres, has contributed to a highly successful season for the team.
The three-rider line-up will see Triumph compete across both MXGP and MX2 in 2027 as the manufacturer enters the next phase of its FIM Motocross World Championship programme.
Before looking too far ahead, however, Farres and McLellan still have plenty to fight for in 2026, with rounds in Sweden, the Netherlands, Türkiye, China and Australia remaining on the MX2 calendar.
For Farres, the opportunity to be part of Triumph’s first factory MXGP team is a major milestone in his career.
“Staying with Triumph means a lot to me and was always my priority,” Farres said. “This is where I started my professional career in Europe after racing in America, and since then the team has become like a family to me.
“To be part of Triumph’s first factory team in the MXGP class is a dream come true and a real privilege. At the same time, I know it’s going to be a big challenge and there will be a lot of work involved.
“We’ve already shown together what we can achieve with the 250. That gives me a lot of confidence that we can get to where we want to be with the 450 as well.
“I’ve already had the chance to ride the 450 a little and really enjoyed it, so I’m excited to start working with the bike properly.”
Farres also welcomed the opportunity to continue working alongside McLellan and new teammate Haarup as Triumph prepares for its first assault on the MXGP class.
“I think having the three of us together will be really positive because we can all learn from and push each other,” he said.
For Triumph, the move into MXGP represents another major milestone after successfully establishing the TF 250-X as a competitive force in the MX2 World Championship.
With Farres and Haarup aboard the TF 450-X and McLellan continuing in MX2, Triumph will enter 2027 with its most significant factory motocross programme yet.
