The YZ450F receives the biggest overhaul in 2026

Yamaha has lifted the covers on its 2026 off-road motorcycle range, led by a heavily updated YZ450F motocrosser and headlined by a stunning 70th Anniversary Edition livery across four iconic YZ models. While the WR enduro bikes remain largely unchanged mechanically, the 2026 line-up receives smart security tech, fresh graphics, and a healthy dose of retro flair.

All-New 2026 YZ450F: Sharper, Smarter, Easier to Ride Fast

Yamaha’s YZ450F has long set the benchmark in the stacked 450 motocross class, and the 2026 version raises the bar again with a host of refinements aimed at making it even easier to go fast for longer.

The new frame is key to the transformation, redesigned with revised rigidity and flex characteristics that give improved front-end feel, better stability and sharper cornering performance. Matched to revised KYB® fork settings and a new high-performance KYB® shock (now with a handy tool-free low-speed compression clicker), the 2026 YZ450F promises more control and confidence across varied track conditions.

Under the seat, engine tweaks enhance linearity and connection between the throttle and the rear wheel. A revised intake port, updated air intake and exhaust system, and new combustion chamber tumble effect improve low-to-midrange response without compromising top-end punch. The result? More control and less rider fatigue, even when the pace ramps up.

Other updates include:

  • A new hydraulic clutch for smoother, lighter operation.
  • The clutch inner hub was redesigned with wider lubrication coverage for durability.
  • Slimmer, sharper bodywork with a new seat cover design for improved grip during acceleration.
  • Push-button electric start, updated styling, and Yamaha’s lightweight race-ready hardware throughout.

Yamaha Powertuner App

A standout new feature is Yamaha’s industry-first ECU lock function, allowing owners to password-lock the engine start via the Power Tuner app—an effective anti-theft deterrent now standard across all YZ-F, WR and FX four-stroke models.

The 2026 YZ450F will be available in Team Yamaha Blue from August 2025 at $15,749 ride away, with the 70th Anniversary Edition (featuring white and red speed block graphics) arriving in November at $15,949 ride away.

Revised YZ125: Classic Two-Stroke, Cleaner Power

Also receiving attention for 2026 is Yamaha’s ever-popular YZ125. This lightweight two-stroke racer cops several updates aimed at improving power delivery and response, including:

  • Revised intake boot and carb settings for more consistent performance.
  • Updated CDI for better combustion and a more linear power curve.

The tried-and-true liquid-cooled 125cc two-stroke engine, complete with Yamaha Power Valve System, remains in place. So too does the six-speed close-ratio gearbox and the nimble alloy chassis paired with high-spec KYB® suspension. It’s a proven platform that’s now even easier to race.

The 2026 YZ125 will land in September for $12,099 ride away, while the 70th Anniversary Edition drops in November at $12,299 ride away.

70th Anniversary Editions: Red, White, and Ready to Race

To mark 70 years since the first Yamaha motorcycle rolled off the production line in 1955, Yamaha has unveiled a striking 70th Anniversary Edition colour scheme across four of its most popular motocross models: YZ125, YZ250, YZ250F and YZ450F.

Inspired by Yamaha’s early Grand Prix race bikes and the late-‘90s YZ400F raced by legends like Doug Henry, the throwback look features red and white speed blocks, black rims and grey seats. It’s a modern nod to a golden era of racing—and one guaranteed to stand out on the start line.

Trail and Cross Country: Subtle Updates and Smarter Tech

While the WR250F and WR450F models don’t see major hardware changes for 2026, they—and the broader four-stroke off-road range—benefit from new theft-prevention tech and updated graphics.

The new ECU lock function is a world-first off-road, giving riders peace of mind in the pits or the garage. By requiring a password to start the bike, it offers a practical deterrent without adding extra hardware or weight.

Meanwhile, the YZ450FX cross-country weapon now gains a four-mode Traction Control system via the Power Tuner app—ideal for racers looking to tailor their setup for anything from dry hardpack to loamy ruts.

Yamaha’s 2026 off-road lineup gets updated graphics across the board for a fresh, factory look out of the box.
