The 2025 Aussie Flat Track Nationals kick off with a bang this weekend, July 26–27, as the championship makes its long-awaited debut at Maryborough’s Action Park. And with Yamaha bLU cRU back on board as a key supporter, the stage is set for a massive season launch.

It’s the first time AFTN has rolled into Maryborough, and the Pro 450 class is stacked. Fans can expect a fierce rematch between defending champ Tom Herrick and 2023 title rival Jarred Brook—last year’s battle went all the way to the final race. This time, they’ll be fighting for national glory and the coveted Bunda Fine Jewels gold-and-diamond ring. But with a full grid of elite talent on the line, it won’t be a two-man show.

AFTN’s trademark format returns with Flat Track racing on Saturday and TT on Sunday—two rounds, two surfaces, one wild weekend. Each class races four times a day, meaning rider fitness is pushed to the limit and the action comes thick and fast. Alongside the Pro 450s, the schedule features standout women’s talent, plus Junior Lites and Junior 85s.

Series organiser Dave Mattack says Maryborough is a milestone moment:
“We’re stoked to open the 2025 season here—AFTN has never gone this far north before. That’s a reflection of how the sport is growing, and that growth is thanks to the ongoing support of our partners like Yamaha, Motul, MXstore, Dunlop, Fist and now Kawasaki.”

Mattack also confirmed several updates for this year, including a rotating format between the Women’s class and Pro Twins at selected rounds, and new venues at Wodonga and Griffith—where racing will be held under lights for the first time.

Thanks to the hard work of the Maryborough Motorcyclist Club, the flat track has been freshly resurfaced and a brand-new TT layout built just for this weekend’s showdown. Herrick is ready to get to work, but is playing it cool:
“I don’t see it as a rivalry with Jarred. I just focus on doing my best in every race.”

Brook, who hails from the Sunshine Coast, isn’t counting on a home-track advantage:
“I’ve raced there a couple of times, but with the rain it was hard to get a feel for the place. Even if it’s wet again, I don’t think anyone really has an edge—everything’s new.”

Other local names to watch include ASBK Superbike ace John Lytras and Ronan Jacobs, who lines up aboard an Australian Road Services-supported machine.
