DRC X-MONITOR - Lap Timer

The stopwatch never lies. But unfortunately it isn’t always easy to find someone willing to choke on the dust and keep hitting the go button on the stopwatch. Luckily for me, Steve Cramer Imports has started bringing in these sweet bar pads with an in-built lap-timer. The LCD screen sits within the bar pad, with a cable connecting to what looks like a second kill switch which you mount to your handlebar. You pick a part on the track, and each lap you hit the button signaling a new lap, and a new lap time. It’s the same as if you were hitting the lap button on an everyday stopwatch, but you are able to do it while riding. At the end of your moto you can scroll back through your lap-times to see what time you did on what lap and whether you were able to keep a good speed for your whole moto. Not only is it good for timing each lap, but I have also been starting it at the beginning of a practice moto so that I am able to work on riding for a full race distance, and be aware of how long I’ve been on the bike. The other feature of the timer is the sector timer, where you are able to start and stop the time after a section of track, and then try a different line and see the difference in time. I haven’t used this half as much as the lap time feature, but I can see where it would be useful. I have found the X-Monitor to be really easy to use. I just pick a tabletop on our practice track and each lap use my thumb to touch the button to signify a new lap while in the air – simple and easy to use.
